I love the X-14's. I just bought a brand new set of lefties off Ebay. Getting real hard to find them new nowadays. Already knowing my measurements, I sent these to Callaway to have the heads bent and the shafts shortened. I've kept the Uniflex shaft in for now. I might upgrade at the end of the season to TT Dynamic Gold. The Uniflex is a pretty good shaft. It plays more like a regular flex which isn't a bad thing.
Below is a list of new and used Callaway X14 irons for sale.
I have an average swing speed of 93mph, so I can get away with this flexable shaft as long as I kept it smooth and steady. I've owned two sets of X-14's in the past. I tinker with new clubs from time to time but always come back to these. They're a dream to hit and I love their simple, classic looks. The offset and cavity design offers quite a bit of forgiveness. I'm not the greatest ball shaper in the world but I have a few different shots up my sleeve that I pull off consistently with these irons. I've also noticed that the offset helps quite a bit with greenside shots; keeps the hands out in front.
Years ago, the thicker top line drove me mad. Now, I welcome it. It's all part of the confidence booster. I did the "blades" thing for a while. Most of my buddies play them. They always talk about the orgasmic feel of hitting the sweet spot. I'll stick with my Callys. They're much more reliable and they fit my game. Plus, I don't look like a wanna-be Tiger Woods. I tried the newer Callaways but didn't see much difference; just some funky artwork in the cavities. I recently bought and sold a set of Ping G5's. Great clubs and I can't fault them. The Pings were the first set I got fitted for.
It made me realize how important that aspect is. When I got my new set of X-14's, I had them fitted right away. I'm sure these will stay in the bag this time around. Besides, I'm counting my blessings that i was able to buy them new. Totally lucked out!
